The youth performing group and adult jazz class each earned bronze medals at the event, held in the picturesque town of Whistler. Dance instructor Katie O'Leary handled choreography for both groups.
Danceworx qualified for the World Cup at the 5, 6, 7, 8 Showtime regional competition in St. John's back in April, but it was the only dance studio from Newfoundland that elected to travel for the event, requiring dancers to engage in a lot of fundraising activity prior to leaving for B.C. on July 2.
Following competition, the youth performing group was selected to perform at the closing gala event held prior to the award ceremony.
While there, the dancers also took advantage of Whistler's outdoor splendors. They zip lined through the trees of Whistler Mountain and travelled peak-to-peak from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Peak.

"The young students really appreciated the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and every other element of the experience," O'Leary told The Compass. "They returned home tired, thankful and still in awe of everything they saw."
