Accused in Bay Roberts armed robbery fit to stand trial

HARBOUR GRACE, NL — A South River man accused of committing an armed robbery at a Bay Roberts gas station has been deemed fit to stand trial.

Evan Blake Tipple, 28, faces a single-count charge of unlawfully committing robbery in relation to an incident at an Ultramar gas station located on the Conception Bay Highway.

Bay Roberts RCMP was called there shortly after midnight on Nov. 26. According to a news release, a man entered the station with a weapon and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise. Police arrested Tipple a short while later.

Tipple made his first court appearance Nov. 27 and was sent for a psychiatric assessment. He was back at Harbour Grace provincial court Thursday, where the judge was informed Tipple is fit to stand trial. He has not entered a plea.

The next scheduled court appearance for the accused, who is not in custody, is Jan. 17, 2018.
