"I am pleased to announce my candidacy today," Guinchard said via news release on Wednesday afternoon.
"I have been privileged to spend many years living and raising my family in Garnish on the Burin Peninsula and during that time my professional career focused on supporting economic development across the Burin and Bonavista peninsulas.
“My time living and working in this amazing area of our province has provided me a deep understanding of the issues of the riding.”
Guinchard, who was born and raised in Flower’s Cove on the Northern Peninsula, has political experience as a former executive assistant to former ministers Ed Roberts, Aubrey Gover and Paul Dicks and also as an organizer with the Liberal Party on provincial and federal campaigns.
He is currently employed as the director of procurement and business services with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District and lives in Mount Pearl.
The seat for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity recently became availble with MP Judy Foote's retirement from politics.
