A staffing crisis appears to be unfolding in the Town of Harbour Grace.

The Compass has learned that two recently hired senior employers have resigned from their duties Wednesday, Jan. 22.

The facilities manager at the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium, Jennifer Janes, and chief administrative officer Ashley Janes are said to have left their positions without notice.

Neither attended the council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The town’s deputy mayor, Sonia Williams, confirmed the resignations Wednesday evening, but said she had not officially seen any paperwork.

She also confirmed remaining town officials will hold a meeting tonight, likely to discuss the situation.

“I wish I could say more right now, but the time (has) to be right and the truth to be said,” she wrote in a social media exchange with The Compass.

The Facebook page for the SW Memorial Stadium is no longer active.

“The SW Moores Memorial Stadium Facebook page will be inactive after tomorrow. If you require information pertaining to the stadium please call 596-6201. Messages sent to this page will not be responded to,” read a message posted on the page Wednesday evening.

Other information on the situation is scarce at this time.

The Compass briefly connected with Jennifer, Ashley and Mayor Terry Barnes today. Official statement will be made at a later time.

The Compass will update its readers as information becomes available.
