Dale Kennedy of Port de Grave was fined $4,500 in Harbour Grace provincial court for misreporting snow crab catches during the 2011 snow crab fishery.

Kennedy was convicted on Jan. 15 for not fully and accurately completing his fishing logbook with information showing the crab areas where he fished and his snow crab catches.

A news release notes an investigation by Department of Fisheries and Oceans fishery officers identified the false information as part of Operation Gearshift, which is a real-time retrospective review of fishing activity in the snow crab and northern shrimp fisheries.

The Operation Gearshift investigation has resulted in convictions of dozens of fishers with the total amount of penalties exceeding $1.5 million.
