It may have taken four attempts, but Brenda Trickett will be the final councillor added to the existing group of six in the Carbonear chamber.

Trickett missed out on a seat during the September general election by 21 votes, a feat she believes was attributed to being hit by a truck five days before the election.

The results kept many residents following the live poll on the Town of Carbonear website on the edge of their seats.

Although Trickett led the way after the first two polls, opponent Bill Dooley passed her lead after the third set of results were available. With only one poll to go, Dooley had increased his lead to 246 versus Brenda's 203.

The final result saw Trickett take a lead of 361, receiving 158 votes in the advanced poll. Dooley missed the mark with 331.

She will be the only female on the council this term.

Attempts to contact Trickett after the announcement were unsuccessful.

The breakdown of results are as follows:

• Brenda Trickett – 361;

• Bill Dooley – 331;

• Dean Penney – 191;

• Peter Snow – 169;

• Debra Bradbury – 83; and

• Denise Sweeney-Broomfield – 25
