The Trinity Conception RCMP is investigating a complaint about unlawful confinement and sexual assault in Carbonear.

A 30-year-old male from St. John’s is in custody after a female told the RCMP just after 12 p.m. yesterday (April 27) she was sexually assaulted, while she and a male acquaintance were held against their will.

The male, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victims, is facing 11 charges, including break and enter, two counts of assault, two counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of uttering threats, one count of sexual assault, possession of stolen property, driving while disqualified and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused appeared before a judge this morning and was placed back in custody, pending a bail hearing scheduled for Wednesday, April 30.

RCMP says the act was not random and the victims know the accused.
