Carbonear Academy celebrated World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) on Wednesday, April 2nd.

The school was alive in a sea of blue with the entire student body and staff wearing the official colour for autism awareness.

As a fundraiser to support those with autism, students were treated to blue ice cream, which was served by Grade 6 students.

Autism awareness displays throughout the building and on classroom doors were a colourful and bright welcome to all who entered the building.

Some dipicted the colourful puzzle piece, the symbol for autism awareness.

The entire school participated in homeroom activities about learning, sharing and talking about the disorder.

Daily morning announcements were presented by Grade 8 students giving us information about autism and what we can do to be a friend to someone who is living with it.

Our message is kindness, patience and understanding, because awareness matters.
