Carbonear Collegiate is getting a new roof.

In a release by the provincial government on July 8, Gander-based LSG Construction has been awarded the tender to replace the roof of the Grade9-12 school.

The tender is valued at $513,000.

“This is the latest in a series of ongoing repairs and maintenance projects approved as part of a $19.2 million commitment in Budget 2014 to upgrade, improve and maintain existing school infrastructure through Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Minister of Education Darin King.

The roof upgrade coming to Carbonear Collegiate adds to the already lengthy list of school upgrades being undertaken by the provincial government in the area since 2004.

This includes $22 million for Carbonear Academy, over $2 million for upgrades to St. Francis Junior High in Harbour Grace and over $1 million for upgrades to Persalvic Elementary in Victoria.

“Since 2004, our government has invested almost $236 million in over 1,900 priority repairs and maintenance projects at schools, providing thousands of students and staff with safer, more modern learning environments,” said King.
