One of the highlights of the past 14 years of the Bay de Verde Heritage Days is the live entertainment. For 14 years, bands, singers and musicians have played on a neighbouring property adjacent to the town’s heritage house. One of those groups that has been performing since the beginning is the Ray Walsh Family Band, originally from Bay de Verde. Three brothers, Ray (left), Gerard (centre) and Ron Walsh, are like the furniture at this event, putting off an entertaining set of traditional Newfoundland tunes during the hot afternoon.

Meara Noonan may be from Nova Scotia, but she spent a bit of time in Bay de Verde to visit her family this summer. On Aug. 3, Meara went with nanny Yvonne Noonan, who still lives in Bay de Verde, to the annual Heritage Day family day. She won a stuffed Chihuahua, and affectionately called him Fluffy.

Olivia LeShane got in her wagon early in the afternoon of Aug. 3, and rolled up the hill to the Bay de Verde Heritage Premises. Mom Stacey, who lives in Paradise with her family, pulled the wagon up the steep hill. Olivia, who is 10 months old, is the granddaughter of Marilyn Blundon from Bay de Verde. She had a lot of fun at her first Heritage Days.

Mic and Julie Noonan of Bay de Verde have strong community pride. So much so, they decided to offer up their lawn for the live entertainment during the annual Bay de Verde Heritage Days event — 14 years ago. The couple invites family up each year to participate in the festivities. From their front deck, the couple also gets the best view of both the performers, and overlooking the ocean. Some of the members of the Noonan family are, from left, Abbigail Noonan, Tyson Noonan, Ashley Noonan, Corey Turner, Michael Noonan, Mic Noonan and family dog Marley. Julie was on the deck, but admitted she was camera shy.

During the weekend of Aug. 1 to 3, the Town of Bay de Verde held fun-filled activities for many residents and visitors to participate in.

During the three days, games of chance, live entertainment and food were available, concluding with a big family day Aug. 3.

Many came from far and wide, including out of province, to be a part of a tradition grown throughout the past 14 years.

The above are photos from family day.
