It's an exciting night for Ken McDonald, the new MP for the Avalon riding.

McDonald arrived at 9:30 p.m. to the Trip Inn Lounge in Kelligrews to a group of about two dozen supporters.

The cheers echoed through as he walked through the main doors with his wife Trudy by his side.

With more than half the votes so far, McDonald appeared confident he would win the seat early on.

He confirmed he believes Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was a big part of the push to win the seat.

When asked the difference between being a municipal leader versus a federal representative, McDonald was quick to respond that municipal issues are on a much smaller scale, like pot holes.

Although this will be a new role for him, he is already prepared to take on the challenge.
