Most schools in the Trinity-Conception-Placentia area are preparing to close for the remainder today in anticipation of a windy and snow-filled afternoon.

All schools in the Baccalieu Collegiate and Placentia systems will close for the afternoon. That’s also the case in the Crescent Collegiate school system, with the exception of Whitbourne Elementary (UPDATE: Whitbourne Elementary is also closing). As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, afternoon classes were set to go ahead as scheduled in the Carbonear Collegiate and Ascension Collegiate school systems.

Up to five centimetres of snow is expected to accumulate Wednesday afternoon, with wind gusts reaching 90 kilometres per hour in coastal areas. Environment Canada expects blowing snow will create problems for motorists.
