Scheduled power outage at Whitbourne clinic today

Eastern Health says there will be a scheduled power outage today at the Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Centre in Whitbourne at 5 p.m. and it will last for about an hour. This interruption is required to upgrade electrical equipment.

During this scheduled power outage, emergency power will also be unavailable. Contingency plans have been put in place.

Beginning at 4 p.m., ambulances will be diverted to the nearest alternate emergency department. If possible, patients should proceed to the nearest alternate emergency department for the duration of the outage.

Any patients who present at Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Centre will be assessed as follows:

• Urgent and emergency patients will be assessed and either diverted to another site or power will be restarted immediately in order to provide treatment.
• Non-urgent or routine patients will be assessed; however there may be delays.

In addition, there may be an interruption in telephone services. In case of an emergency, residents in the area are advised to call 911 directly.
