Humpback whales visit Little Bay East
Little Bay East in Fortune Bay received a special visit from a group of majestic creatures on Tuesday evening.
The Once are (from left) Andrew Dale, Geraldine Hollett and Phil Churchill.
Newfoundland’s The Once says they take one thing with them everywhere they go – the song “By the Glow of the Kerosene Light.”
In a video posted to the group’s Facebook page last week, the band says it has received “more gifts that we can possibly count or understand” for singing the song, which was written by Wince Coles and made popular by Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers.
The song helped the group – Geraldine Hollett, Phil Churchill and Andrew Dale – catch the attention of Scotland’s Mike Rosenberg, also known as Passenger in the music world, with whom they’ve formed a relationship that has spanned three albums and a world tour, the post noted.
It has also connected them to Irish acoustic folk rock band Hermitage Green who they met at CelticFest Vancouver a few years ago.
Hermitage Green have also since fallen in love with the song and recorded their own version.
The two bands recently met up in Kansas City, Missouri and teamed up to sing a stunning live version of the song.
The Facebook video has gone viral with over 80,000 views to date. Check it out here. It’s worth the time.
