On Sept. 28, as a result of the RCMP investigation and “Project Bombard,” charges of second-degree murder were laid against 53-year-old Allan Potter and 35-year-old Daniel Leonard, in the death of Dale Porter.
But those charges were upgraded to first-degree murder in Harbour Grace Provincial Court Friday, the RCMP said in a news release today.
As well, Leonard is facing an additional charge of accessory after the fact.
According to the definition in the Criminal Code of Canada, these offences relate to a murder that is committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a criminal organization, the RCMP noted.
Potter and Leonard are still in custody and are scheduled to reappear in court Friday.
Porter, a father of two, was stabbed to death on June 29, 2014, in North River.
