CARBONEAR, NL — A recount of votes cast in Carbonear's municipal election confirmed David Kennedy's reelection to council.

Kennedy, an eight-year veteran of council, was the council candidate with the sixth most votes (816) in last Tuesday's election, giving him the final seat on council. Ches Ash, a former deputy mayor of the town, was four votes behind him at 812 and requested a recount last Thursday.

The recount took place Saturday, and the final results cushioned Kennedy's margin of victory over Ash, giving him 817 votes to Ash's 809.
