Jason Alexander King appeared in Harbour Grace Provincial Court by videolink Wednesday morning. Duty counsel lawyer Heidi Marshall, appearing on behalf of King’s lawyer Kevin Baker, made an election to proceed by judge in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court.
A one-day preliminary inquiry will take place Jan. 23. King has not entered any pleas. In addition to attempted murder, he is facing charges of aggravated assault, two other assault counts, mischief for damaging a cell phone, uttering threats and breach of probation.
King was arrested March 29 after police were called to the Dollarama store at the Bay Roberts Mall, where a woman was stabbed. She was taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries. King has not requested a bail hearing.
