GREEN’S HARBOUR, NL — Jeff March is hoping to spread some holiday joy this season with his upcoming Christmas album, “Upon This Winter’s Night.”
March, a Green’s Harbour native, has a long history with music. When he was only four, his parents put him in piano lessons. He has since picked up a multitude of instruments such as violin and flute, as well as honing his singing skills.
Now, with an established career as a musician and music instructor, March is prepared to release his first major project – a Christmas album, just in time for the holiday season.
“I’ve always wanted to put together an album. It’s always been a big goal for me,” March explained. “Christmas is also a very special time of year to me, especially when it comes to performing – for the last four years, I’ve done a Christmas concert here in Green’s Harbour, so the season has always been important to me, so this year I decided to work on an album.”
March started recording the album in 2016. He said a lot of time, dedication and love for music went into the project, and he’s very happy with the outcome.
March’s family – namely his two children, Liam and Ben – were a big influence on the overall feel of the project.
“Christmas, when you’re a young kid, is a very different experience than when you’re an adult. Growing up, most children enjoy Christmas because of the magical feeling it carries with it, but as you start to get older, that starts to change, and I was no exception to that.
“Christmas just didn’t have the same essence to it,” said March. “But, when I became a father, it all changed again. Christmas became magical all over again, for a brand new reason. The music also developed this whole new meaning to me, and I think that emotion really comes through on the album.”
“Upon This Winter’s Night” features March’s rendition of classic Christmas songs. He recently went live on Facebook, where he discussed the various tracks as they played in the background. The stream saw approximately 4,000 people listen in, with positive feedback all around.
Now, March is preparing for the official launch of the project on Dec. 1., being hosted at The Doctor’s House Inn and Spa in Green’s Harbour from 7 to 9 p.m.
