Among the nine companies attending from Newfoundland and Labrador are Bay Roberts Seafoods, Harbour Grace Shrimp Company and Green Seafoods of Winterton.
Both the federal government through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the provincial government are supporting the trade mission. A news release said the mission will create business opportunities in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets.
The event is expected to attract over 1,100 companies from more than 100 countries. Canada exported $4.4 billion worth of fish and seafood products in 2013, with the Atlantic region accounting for 70 per cent of those exports.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is also in China on a four-day visit.
