Man accused in street racing death back in custody


One of the men charged with street racing resulting in the death of an 18-year-old New Harbour girl is back in custody.

Brian King is led into provincial court in Harbour Grace late last month.

Brian Robert King, 30, is expected to appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court Tuesday for allegedly failing to comply with a probation order. He's also charged with failure to comply with conditions of an undertaking or recognizance.

It’s been less than a month since King, who is from Bay Roberts, was released on recognizance.

The other man charged in relation to the death is 29-year-old Stephen Ryan Mercer.

On July 7, the pair was allegedly engaged in an illegal street race while travelling along the New Harbour Barrens. They face identical charges of criminal negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, street racing causing death, street racing causing bodily harm and breach of probation.

King was driving the second vehicle involved in the collision that took life of Hannah Thorne. Her grandmother was also injured in the crash.
