Man dies in rollover on Veterans Memorial Highway near Tilton

TILTON, NL – A 58-year old Carbonear man has died as a result of a single-vehicle collision on Veterans Memorial Highway near Tilton. The man was the only person in the vehicle.

The crash took place about 4:30 p.m. Thursday between the Spaniard's Bay and Tilton exits.

The man’s car apparently crossed the centre line and overturned in the ditch on the other side of the highway.

First responders with the Spaniard’s Bay fire department and an ambulance crew went to the scene.

The RCMP closed the section of highway and diverted traffic from the area, through New Harbour Road and into Spaniard’s Bay. An evaluation of the scene by police and investigation into the cause of the crash has begun.

A traffic analyst also went to the scene, Bay Roberts RCMP stated in a news release.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Traffic is being diverted through New Harbour Road in Spaniard’s Bay following an accident near Tilton on the Veterans Memorial Highway.

A news release from the Bay Roberts RCMP is describing the collision as “serious.”

A traffic analyst is also on the scene, according to the release.

The RCMP is asking motorists to drive safely and exercise patience in the area.
