There’s more precipitation expected for the eastern portion of Newfoundland this weekend, adding to a number of snowfalls already this winter.

Environment Canada expects snow, or a snow and rain mix, on Friday night — quickly turning to rain later in the night as temperatures rise on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas.

In other areas, the precipitation will not turn to rain, but may become a mix with rain at times.

Their forecast indicates a low-pressure system will cross the Avalon Peninsula Friday night, with precipitation arriving over the south coast late Friday afternoon, spreading to eastern areas in the evening.

According to Environment Canada, rainfall amounts could total 10-20 millimetres for the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas. More western-lying areas could get between 10-15 centimetres of snowfall.
Conditions are expected to improve quickly Saturday morning, as the system moves away from the island.
