Recently, Carbonear’s green project received a boost with some $6,000 in funding coming its way. This is on top of the $1,000 received for the project last fall through a separate grant system.
As a result, recreation director Rob Button says the town is looking to upgrade the site.
“We’re looking to put a greenhouse on site so we can start things earlier in the season,” he said. “We’re also looking at upgrading the upper portion (of the gardens) and putting in place to grow potatoes, tomatoes and things like that.”
The gardens encourage residents to carve out their own space and let their green thumbs go to work.
With individual plots, the garden fills up quickly each year as residents learn the nuances of growing and harvesting top-notch crops.
