UPDATE: The Marine Institute's annual model boat race scheduled for Saturday, March 10, has been cancelled due to impending weather.
The event is now scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 28.
ST. JOHN’S, NL – Students from nine schools are fine tuning their entries for the Marine Institute’s annual model boat race this Saturday, March. 10.
The event will take place in the flume tank at the Marine Institute’s Ridge Road campus in St. John’s.
The participating high schools are Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts, Brookside Intermediate in Portugal Cove-St. Phillps, Clarenville High, South Dildo’s Crescent Collegiate, Fatima Academy of St. Bridge’s, Queen Elizabeth Regional High in Conception Bay South, Avondale’s Roncalli Central High, St. Mark's School in King’s Cove and Trepassey’s Stella Maris Academy.
In the morning, the teams will navigate their boats through a slalom course of bouys. Then, in the afternoon, they will vie for the title of fastest boat by racing their models head-to-head.
The Marine Institute’s Office of Student Recruitment and the School of Maritime Studies co-hosts the annual race. It is supported by Fleetway Inc., Genoa Design International and SNC Lavalin.
