Those expecting to get a prescription filled or pick up some post-Christmas trinkets were inconvenienced Friday morning.
Their regular Lawton’s Drugs location on Topsail Road in Paradise was closed until repairs were completed on the storefront that was heavily damaged early Friday by what appears to be a stolen backhoe.
The report came in to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary at 5:40 a.m. and when they arrived found large windows on the left hand side of the storefront had been pushed in with the backhoe creating considerable damage to the store. The suspects fled the area in the backhoe, taking with them, an ATM from within the business with an undisclosed amount of cash inside.
It was believed the backhoe caused the damage as one was recovered a short distance away from the crime scene.
It is unknown at this time what was taken in the break and enter as officers were still compiling their report.
The store was closed to the public as of 10:15 a.m. on Friday morning and calls to the Lawton’s location also went to voice messenger indicating the store was closed.
Further details will be released by the RNC as soon as they are available.
