Pete Soucy has made it official.

During a press conference at the Clarenville Inn at noon, Soucy announced he will seek the Liberal nomination in the riding of Bonavista–Burin–Trinity.

The seat was previously held by Judy Foote who officially resigned last week.

“Having worked in the riding and spent considerable time here with my wife Margo and her family over the past decade, knowing the issues and concerns through so many conversations over six years as a call-in radio host, I feel at home, committed, and ready to serve,” Soucy said in a news release.

Soucy, a former high school teacher, is best known in the province for his work producing, writing, performing and directing.

He co-founded the Newfoundland Comedy Festival in 2007, is a published author and playwright, and has served on many boards and executives since 1985.

The Liberal Party of Canada has yet to announce a date for the nomination.
