TC Media weeklies win Newspapers Atlantic awards


The TC Media weekly community newspapers collected a number of awards at the Newspapers Atlantic annual conference this weekend in Halifax.

Ty Dunham, reporter for the Aurora, received the award for Outstanding Feature Story.

Nicholas Mercer, reporter for the Compass newspaper, won the award for Outstanding Columnist. The Compass was also presented with the Red Lobster award, recognizing humorous mistakes in print.

Paul Herridge, associate editor of the Southern Gazette was awarded the most Outstanding News Photo.

Finally, Packet reporter Kevin Curley was given the award for Outstanding Resources Story.

"We have an incredibly talented and dedicated group of reporters working at our commuity newspapers," said Steve Bartlett, TC Media's regional editor for Newfoudland and Labrador.

"These awards showcase and highlight some of the great work these journalists do every week. We are very proud of them."

On top of these awards, the Newfoundland and Labrador sales crew won the Newspapers Atlantic Great Ideas exchange with a digital magazine proposal.

Newspapers Atlantic is a non-profit membership organization that represents 40 newspapers with a combined circulation of more than 250,000 newspapers in Atlantic Canada.
