Celebration of Chinese New Year tonight in St. John's

St. John's, N.L. The 2018 Chinese New Year Dinner and Dance Celebration—  the largest Chinese New Year Celebration Event in Newfoundland and Labrador — is taking n today at CLB Armory, Harvey Road, St. John’s.

During the evening event, a Senate of Canada 150th Anniversary Medal Award will take place. Sen. David Wells will formally award a Senate of Canada 150th Anniversary Medal to Dr. Kim Hong to recognize his decades of outstanding commitment to Chinese community in Newfoundland and Labrador.

 About 300 people are expected to attend this evening’s event.

Chinese people around the world celebrated the arrival of the Year of the Dog on Friday with family reunions, firecrackers and traditional food.
