RCMP enforce Natuashish booze ban, seize alcohol


The RCMP seized 11 bottles of alcohol headed to Natuashish on Tuesday.

The RCMP seized 11 bottles of alcohol from three women at the airport in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Tuesday who were headed to Natuashish. Sale, purchase and possession of alcohol has been banned in Natuashish since 2008.

The booze was found during a search of three Natuashish women at the airport in Happy Valley-Goose Bay who were planning to travel back to the community.

The sale, purchase and possession of alcohol was banned in Natuashish after a referendum in 2008.

“The RCMP will continue to work with the Chief and Council to curb the illegal use of alcohol within the Band boundary,” a news release on the seizure issued today stated.

Police say the matter is still under investigation.
