Nicole Kennedy of Spaniard's Bay is one of 20 contestants in the running for Miss Teen Newfoundland and Labrador 2011.

The pageant is scheduled to take place at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's from March 17-20.

This marks the 15th anniversary of the event.

Kennedy is a 14-year-old student at Holy Redeemer School in Spaniard's Bay. She is heavily involved in sports, school events, committees and volunteer work, and maintains an excellence academic record.

The winner is selected on the basis of personality, academics, fitness, public speaking ability, and on-stage casual and evening wear competitions.

Organizers describe the event as a search for the most well-rounded young lady in Newfoundland & Labrador.

The 2007 winner was Danielle Seward of Heart's Delight-Islington.

Six individual awards are up for grabs at the 2011 event, including the People's Choice Award, which is given to the contestant who receives the most on-line votes. It has no bearing on the overall score.

To cast a vote, send an e-mail to peopleschoice2011@nfpageants.net, with the name of the contestant you would like to vote for in the subject line. Participants can vote once daily.

The winner, as well as two additional delegates from the pageant, advance to the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant in Toronto. It's said to be the largest national teen pageant in Canada.

The reigning Miss Teen Newfoundland and Labrador is Georgina Barbour from Witless Bay.
