Harbour Grace resident approves of amalgamation talk

I read with interest your article in the Tuesday, Oct. 4 edition of The Compass entitled “Amalgamation on the tip of towns’ tongues.”

letter to the editor

I have been a resident of Conception Bay North my entire life. After university in 1972, I returned to Harbour Grace to work in a family business. I now work in Bay Roberts but still live in Harbour Grace.

Life has been good to my wife and I. We raised three wonderful children and their families now live in the St. John’s area. We have eight beautiful grandchildren.

I would hope all the council members in Conception Bay North area give some serious thought to what Mayor (Philip) Wood had to say at the joint council meeting recently held in Bay Roberts. This is was at a Conception Bay North Joint Council meeting.

We, as a group of people, have to really start thinking collectively for our overall better good

The word that I have been using lately to describe our thinking here is just too much tribalism in our area.

We have many wonderful assets in our region — hospital, schools, swimming pools, stadiums, etc.

More will be added, but this area has to think regionally.

Thank you, I remain.
