LETTER: Questioning the need to expropriate Ridley Offices

Ridley Offices is one of the oldest properties in Harbour Grace.
Ridley Offices is one of the oldest properties in Harbour Grace.

I've just returned from Florida and have a lot of catching to do with my back issues of The Compass. One of the articles that caught my eye was the issue of the Ridley premises in the cove in Harbour Grace.

The powers that be are apparently trying to make this into an industrial area, but it is not, it's residential.

That beautiful stone building was the home of former Senator Eric Cook and Mrs. Cook for many years. My parents would visit them quite often there, and I also did at one time for afternoon tea.

It was a great pleasure to visit with them in their lovely home that is such a replica of so many stately homes in England that I had opportunities to visit.

Please let the lady who now owns this residence enjoy her beautiful dwelling in peace with all and sundry.
