Conception Bay North skaters medal in recent competitions

Nine qualify for Skate NL Provincials in Clarenville later this month

The Conception Bay North Figure Skating Club sent 13 skaters to the Skate NL Eastern Divisionals last month in Torbay, Jan. 21-22.

Individual and team figure skaters from Conception Bay North fared well at a pair of recent competitions in Newfoundland.

Danielle Mercer and Brianna Russell both placed first in their respective categories at the Skate NL Eastern Divisionals last month, and two synchro teams medalled at a meet in Conception Bay South.

Danielle placed first in the Star 4 (over 13 years) category at the competition in Torbay. Fellow Conception Bay North Skating Club members Emily Dawson and Hannah Green placed sixth and tenth respectively.

The Ice Gems claimed first place in the Beginner 2 division at the Elizabeth Swan Memorial Synchronized Skating Competition in Conception Bay South Jan. 21-22.

Brianna won the Star 5 (over 13 years) event. Her teammates competing in that category were Helena Churchill (eighth), Julia Keefe (ninth) and Natalie Mercer (12th).

At the Elizabeth Swan Memorial Synchronized Skating Competition, the CBN Skating Club’s Beginner 2 team, the Ice Gems, placed first. The Juvenile Ice Creams placed seventh and the Pre-Novice Icicles were sixth.

The club from Conception Bay North will send nine skaters to the Skate NL Provincials in Clarenville Feb. 17-19 — Helena Churchill, Emily Dawson, Katie Dawson, Julia Keefe, Laura Keefe, Danielle Mercer, Natalie Mercer, Tonilynn Parsons and Brianna Russell.
