OUTER COVE, NL — Taking part in a highly competitive 12-team provincial tournament, the Butlerville Bombers almost won it all.

The Bombers Pee Wee 1 softball squad lost 12-8 against Conception Bay Central 1 in the final of the Pepsi under-14 Pee Wee Boy's Provincial Slo Pitch tournament. The team came from the event with a silver medal after making a bid to repeat as provincial champs.

Coach Dominic Pottle said all players had an amazing tournament, adding he looks forward to seeing them play again next year. He'll also be coaching many of the same kids this fall when hockey starts.

The Bombers were undefeated heading into the championship game, played Aug. 6 at Kelly Park in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove. This year's group included six players from the 2016 championship and five newcomers.
