ST. JOHN’S, NL — The Ascension Astros girls volleyball team’s strong season continued over the weekend with a good showing at a provincial tournament.

The team representing the Bay Roberts school claimed a bronze medal at the 18-and-under Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association provincial tournament, held Feb. 23-24 at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s.

The Astros lost a nail biter in three sets in the Tier 2 semi-final of Division B. That set the team up for a bronze medal match up against Gander Collegiate. The Astros went on to win that match.

Earlier this year, the senior girls team won an invitational tournament at Holy Heart of Mary in St. John’s.
