Harvest Run sees over 1,000 participants

CARBONEAR, NL — This year’s Harvest Run saw over 1,000 students participate in the annual event.

The Harvest Run, a three-kilometre race hosted in Carbonear, sees elementary school students from communities and schools all over the Trinity-Conception-Placentia area come to the Carbonear running track to test their skills as young athletes.

The event took place on Thursday morning, Oct. 13, and saw over 1,000 students this year, who all eagerly lined up on the track, grouped by gender and grade, with the youngest runners going first, ending with the oldest.

Each student started near the center of the oval-shaped track, running to the exit, around the fence that lined the field, and back again toward a finish line, where each racer was timed s they crossed.

Volunteers, students, and teachers took part in making the annual event happen – a successful morning, with the autumn rains holding off until the end of the race that afternoon.
