ST. JOHN'S, NL — Two athletes from Placentia were among those honoured at a recent awards banquet for the St. John's Men's Senior Fastpitch Softball League.
Jordan Pomeroy received the rookie of the year award following a productive 2017 season playing for the Canada Games team, and Jeremy O'Reilly of the NTV Hitmen was named to the all-league team as an infielder.
Pomeroy, who also earned a spot on Canada's roster for the 2018 WBSC junior men's softball world championship and a Softball Canada scholarship in 2017, had a fantastic rookie season. In 14 games, he hit .366 with a .537 slugging percentage and led the team in doubles with four.
O'Reilly was the league leader in regular season RBIs with 23 in 18 games and was second in walks with 13. He produced a .373 batting average with 19 hits in 51 at bats and had a .627 slugging percentage.
The awards were presented Nov. 4 during an awards banquet at Kelly's Pub in St. John's.
