Every year, a number of students from local schools take part in the National Engineering and Geoscience Month (NEGM) Model Bridge Building competition where they are challenged to build a bridge using only white glue and popsicle sticks.
They are provided with guidelines and are encouraged to get creative in their presentation. Their bridges are then reviewed by a panel of engineers and geoscientist and put under pressure to see how much weight they can hold before they break.
In Labrador City, young people have an opportunity to be exposed in the many fields of engineering and geoscience through Rio Tinto Iron Ore Company of Canada.
Students and members of the PEGNL Connections-Labrador chapter will be at the Labrador Mall for Bridge Day on Sunday, March 31.
