Clarenville preps for 2019 Wintertainment

Town releases info for annual winter carnival

CLARENVILLE, N.L. —

This year’s Wintertainment is ready to go. This weekend, Feb. 8, events kick off for the 31st annual event.

Running until Feb. 16, the schedule includes over 50 events and activities over nine days.

The opening ceremony is at White Hills resort on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. with the returning “Dummy Downhill” event, a camp fire, wiener roast and s’mores, as well as a fireworks display.

The committee has also planned a bus to transport people to the ski hill from the town.

Some of the additional new events for 2019 include: bowling night for families affected by autism; Special Olympics boil up; Princess and Pirate tea party and more.

Meanwhile, the committee is also seeking the help of local businesses to become sponsors, or donate prizes or other non-monetary items.

Opening Ceremony events include the second annual “Dummy Downhill”, Camp Fire, Wiener Roast and Smores followed by a “FIREWORKS DISPLAY” from the slopes at White Hills Ski Resort.

White Hills will also be offering snow games, gingerbread café, soup and fresh bread with warm cookies, Karaoke & music. All of this is included with a purchase of a $2 wintertainment button!!

After the Fireworks, White Hills will also offer night skiing from the magic carpet only from 8pm to 10pm. Only $10 for ski rentals and a magic carpet pass with a wintertainment button!!

SNOWMAN CONTEST

Families with children from ages 2 - 12. Hey kids, let’s make a family of snowmen on your front lawn. Get mom or dad’s help and start now! Contest is unrelated to the Ice Sculpture Contest. ICE & SNOW SCULPTURE CONTEST

Build a sculpture in front of your premises and contact Brandon at 466-4105 ext 225 as soon as you are ready for judging. Members of the committee will view your sculpture as soon as possible.  This is to ensure maximum public exposure for each work of art and to avoid a Masterpiece Meltdown before judging! Winners will be announced on Saturday, February 16th during the Closing Ceremonies. $100 prize awarded to the best sculpture, $50 for second place and $25 for the third. All cash prizes will be awarded.

NEIGHBOURHOOD GET TOGETHER

This year we are delighted to bring back the “Neighborhood Get-Togethers” for Wintertainment. Families and neighbors are encouraged to get together and organize your own neighborhood or street celebration during Carnival. Contact the EEC Box Office at 466-4105 ext 222 and the Carnival Committee can provide you with some marshmallows, wieners, hot chocolate mix and even some firewood!!
