GANDER, N.L.

Many teenagers have only a vague idea of their future plans, but 16-year-old Robyn Slade’s music career is well underway.

In the past two years, Robyn has released three singles, all of which have been very popular on social media and YouTube.

Her music reflects her preference for songs that tell a story.

“My favourite type of music is inspirational because I enjoy the stories behind it,” Robyn said. “I love spreading powerful messages through music.”

Her first single “I Know Who She Is”, written by her friend Rob Hickman, is a love story about a man visiting a nursing home to see his wife who has Alzheimer’s disease.

Her second single “Saviour”, written and produced by Shawn Wiseman, is a bluesy, gospel, country song.

Robyn’s most recent single, “Hey”, released in September 2018 has received over 65,000 views on Facebook and 2,100 on YouTube. The song, written by Rob Hickman, is a duet with singer Clint Curtis and tells the story of a father and daughter who are meeting for the first time when the daughter is 18.

The messages of the songs have led people to contact Robyn to express their feelings about the music, something she finds very rewarding.

“I enjoy touching people’s lives through my songs and I love to hear how much my song means to them in their own personal life,” she said.

Robyn often performs live at weddings, conventions, concerts and benefits and she is hopeful about her future in music.

“The next step for me is to release a few more original songs eventually leading to a CD,” she said. “I hope to pursue music in the future and become a well-known recording artist.”

Robyn, who started taking voice lessons with musician Shawn Wiseman at age eight, notes she plays guitar or ukulele and sings almost every day, and that music has always been important to her.

“Ever since I was little I was always singing,” Robyn said. “Music is a huge part of my life and always helps me feel relaxed, happy, and connected to other people.”
