ST. JOHN'S, N.L. —

Les Ms. is showing no signs of slowing down.

The choir, based in St. John’s, is recently back from performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

In addition, they performed a private show at Planet Hollywood, which was met with rave reviews as they did a host of songs outside their normal repertoire.

This led to “Belles, Blues and Boogie is Back from the Big Apple,” a show tonight at the Bella Vista in St. John’s.

  1. partnership between Les Ms. Choir and the Lori Cooper Band is back at a brand-new venue.

“We’ll raise the rafters at the Bella Vista with music ranging from ballads to blues, and jive to jazz,” Les Ms. director Valerie Long said.
“This collaboration has pushed the horizons of both the choir and the band, allowing each of them to draw on strengths not usually seen in a standard choir concert venue, or bar performance.’’

In addition to Les Ms., the show will feature The Lori Cooper Band. Cooper has been singing since age two and is a classically trained pianist. She has played with The Thomas Trio & Red Albino and The Plankerdown Band, has toured extensively, has accompanied local theatre, and manages and teaches at a private music school.

Cooper leads her own band, aptly named The Lori Cooper Band, and they fill dance floors regularly.

Les Ms. is known for its philanthropic activities that support the community, the annual “Sing for Care” event, which raises funds for patients and families dealing with cancer (HBM Cancer Care Foundation Patient and Family Support Fund), and for their excellence in a high-energy choral performance.
Invited to perform with massed women’s voices at Magnificat! Music in Celebration of International Women’s Day, this past March, the choir also gave a performance of their own repertoire at Planet Hollywood, packing the room and energizing the audience.

Les Ms. is recognized, both locally and internationally, for its high-quality music and unique performance style, delivering an eclectic repertoire that spans sacred music and spirituals to traditional, pop and vocal jazz.
Their performances are known for a high-energy presentation style and engaging audience connection. It is this exceptional style of choral music presentation and love of music that make performances by Les Ms. so unique, entertaining and memorable.

Tickets are $40 for tonight’s event, which includes hors d’oeuvres and snacks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. start to the show.
A cash bar and a 50-50 draw will also be featured.
