Kris Kustoms fourth annual Show and Shine will roll into Channel Port aux Basques this weekend.

This community involved event is set to be held on Saturday, July 13, but if the forecast stays with rain for Saturday, it will be moved to Sunday, July 14.

This is a very special show and shine since the organizers believe each vehicle is as unique to each owner as each child who has autism is unique to themselves. No awards will be handed out - instead, businesses in the community have donated items so each owner will be able to choose a gift at the end of the show.

There is no registration fee, which allows the owners to feel free to purchase tickets on a 50/50 opportunity and also on a $250 donated prize of different gift cards from restaurants in town. A barbecue lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs will also be served.

AIM (Autism Involves Me) representatives will also be available to answer questions and bring awareness to the public about autism. They will also be collecting any donations that the public would like to give. Any money collected will be used to pay for the family summer swimming program for children with autism.

The AIM group is continuously building its resource library to meet the needs of the community. Currently, people are asking for more information about adults seeking advice on how to be assessed for a diagnosis of autism and how to move from teenage to adulthood on the Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Bank of Nova Scotia is a huge part of this fundraiser, with staff from the local bank branch volunteering at the show and the bank generously agreeing to match the amount donated to AIM that day.

All owners of any type of vehicle - from a farm tractor to a brand-new vehicle – are welcome to attend the show and shine. Organizers say that if drivers are proud of your vehicle, they are encouraged to bring it along and enjoy showing it to the community.

The event will be held at 235 Grand Bay West Rd., Channel Port aux Basques, from noon until 4 p.m.
