BRISTOL'S HOPE, NL — A busy forest fire season continued in Conception Bay North Thursday, with the latest blaze reported in Bristol's Hope.

Six-to-eight homes were evacuated in the community early Thursday evening, according to Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief Jim Barnes. His department received the call to respond at 5 p.m. Most of the fire burned along Pondside Ride near the community's park.

Fire departments from Carbonear and Spaniard's Bay were called to assist, and a waterbomber also contributed to the response. Barnes told The Compass if it hadn't been for the plane, the situation could have been a lot worse. There were no injuries and residents were able to return to their homes.
