Police says 22-year-old died at the scene

A 22-year-old man from Carbonear died in a single-vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway near Cochrane Pond Wednesday night.

When officers from the Holyrood Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to the scene about one kilometre east of the Foxtrap Access Road just after 9 p.m., they found that the man — who had not been wearing his seatbelt — had been ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene.

Police determined that the vehicle was traveling west when it lost control, crossed the median into the eastbound lane and came to rest down an embankment.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the collision.
