Eighty-one-year-old Upper Island Cove man dead following single-vehicle collision

On the evening of Monday, Jan. 7, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Bay Roberts RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision with injuries near Canada Post in the town of Upper Island Cove.

Firefighters from Upper Island Cove and paramedics were on scene when police arrived. A SUV had departed the roadway and went into a ditch. An 81-year-old man from the community died on scene.

A collision analyst from RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged. According to a press release issued Tuesday, Jan. 8, the investigation is continuing.
