Newfoundlander murdered in Alberta, suspect wanted

A man with Placentia roots was murdered this past week in Alberta.

Christopher O’Reilly, 36, was pronounced dead last Monday shortly after his arrival at a hospital in Leduc. He lived in the central Alberta town of Warburg, the community where police were called to earlier that evening.

According to family, O’Reilly was born in Placentia and moved to Alberta with his parents at a young age. His parents, Dennis and Dolorosa O’Reilly, are also from the Placentia area.

On Thursday, Thorsby RCMP announced Gerald Peter Krahn, 29, is wanted on one count of second-degree murder. A warrant for his arrest has been issued. He was last known to live in Beaumont, Alta and is considered armed and dangerous.

According to his aunt Phyllis Smith, Christopher leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter. A celebration of his life is scheduled to take place Monday in Warburg.
