LETTER: South River resident not happy about hole

I attended a council meeting with the mayor, deputy mayor and all councillors to raise my concerns about the safety for children in the area.

As you can see from the picture, this large hole is eight feet wide and 16 feet deep. The road and guardrail are approximate two feet from this large opening, with a concrete floor. A small drain runs under the road and through this cribbing; the other end of this drain is open with a small two-inch pipe, two feet high across the ditch.

Kids will soon be out of school for the summer. Many of them play and sit on this dangerous rail area. All councillors’ and mayors’ mouths dropped open — every one of them said they had no idea about this.

Can you imagine, just 10 minutes from council. There are many other problems I can show you that need to be taken care of. I pray to God someone gets council to wake up and make sure all children will have a safe and happy summer.
