Ascension Collegiate student-athlete earns big award from SSNL

An Ascension collegiate student was recently recognized for his prowess when it comes to athletic performance and academic excellence.

Dawson Laundry received a Brother G.I. Moore Student-Athlete of the Year Award for the School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador 4A male classification level. The 4A classification represents the highest level of competition in the province.

Laundry is recognized at the school as a great leader and exceptional sportsman. According to a biography prepared for the awards presentation, he is known for leading his teams with the belief that you can achieve greatness in whatever you do.

A member of multiple sports teams, including hockey and ball hockey, Laundry captained the outdoor soccer team. He competed on teams that earned two qualifier banners and one provincial banner. He also received a most-spirited player award in a highly competitive 4A division.

Laundry's award comes with a $500 scholarship. It was presented May 31 at an awards ceremony in St. John's.
