Shailynn Snow has played her way on to the roster for a Canadian national women’s junior team scheduled to face the United States.
On Sunday, Aug. 12, Hockey Canada named the Clarke’s Beach native to its 23-player roster for the National Women’s Under-18 Team. Canada and the U.S. will face off for a three-game series in Calgary later this week, Aug. 16-19.
For the past week, Snow has been among 92 players taking part in selection camps for the under-18 squad and the National Women’s Development Team. The roster for the latter team was also announced Aug. 12.
In three exhibition games played during the selection camp, Snow showed off her knack for burying pucks in the net. She tied as the top scorer for goals (two) and points (four).
A 16-year-old forward due back at the St. Catherine’s, Ontario, prep school Ridley College in the fall for her senior year, Snow has already committed to St. Lawrence College in Canton, New York. She was offered a full athletic scholarship to attend the American college, where she’ll begin playing hockey in 2019.
Following the series against the Americans, Hockey Canada will continue assessing players through the early months of the 2018-19 season. Eventually, a team will be selected to represent Canada at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation’s U18 Women’s World Championship, happening Jan. 6-13 in Obihiro, Japan.
