SHEARSTOWN, N.L.

Grandmaster Wesley Earle of Shearstown, who is an 8th Degree Black Belt, earned a silver medal last month at the 2018 Canadian Open Tae Kwon Do competition.

The event, held Sept. 16, in Richmond, B.C., featured competitors from 33 countries, in junior and senior divisions, and sparring and poomsae.

Earle competed and medaled in the senior division in poomsae and was the only Newfoundlander at the event.

Grandmaster Earle is also recently back from South Korea, earning the title of 8th Dan Black Belt, the first world Tae Kwon Do Canada certified in Newfoundland and Labrador.

He has been training hard to embark on his quest to reach the podium in this event. Considering he battled severe pancreatitis that hospitalized him for 14 months, he has overcome a great deal to achieve this success.

Grandmaster Earle will continue to train at his Dojang in Shearstown, which he has been running for 40 years.
